Big thank you to the legendary actor and director Bill Duke for coming on my show for an interview! Bill talked about the racism he endured in his early life, winning awards for his poetry, and his experience of growing up in Poughkeepsie, New York. He got into his time in college attending Boston University, New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, and the renowned AFI Conservatory, where he learned about film-making. We went over his work on Broadway, his first major role as Abdullah Mohammed Akbar aka Duane in Car Wash, and working alongside Richard Gere as Leon in American Gigolo. Bill is a major part of history as he is one of the first black directors, especially in television as he had his time directing for Dallas, Miami Vice, and The Twilight Zone. In 1985, he starred in Commando as Cooke alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alyssa Milano. He talked about his fight scene with Arnold in Commando during the motel scene. He then got into his role as Sergeant Mac in Predator, how Kevin Peter Hall was not the first person to play the Predator in the film, and working with Carl Weathers once again a year later in Action Jackson. We discussed his most famous scene in cinema history in Menace II Society with Tyrin Turner as a detective where he has the famous line, "You know you done fucked up". We also got into his role as Levar in Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Despite his acting career, we went over his work as a director that includes Deep Cover, A Rage in Harlem, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and Hoodlum. He recently released his book titled Bill Duke: My 40-Year Career on Screen and Behind the Camera and announced that he has two more books on the way. We also got into his Duke Media Foundation and how he helps the youth with his classes regarding acting and film-making. Bill mentioned that he wants to cast Snoop Dogg in one of his upcoming works. He also just started his own network called the Unite Network that helps bring people together. Thank you Bill Duke for making history and all that you have done for TV & film.
