Joe Dante talks The Howling, Gremlins, & Horror movies on ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Huge thank you to legendary director Joe Dante for coming on my show for an interview! Joe discussed his passion for movies starting at a young age by going to the movie theaters, his love for classic Horror films, and how he started working with Roger Corman. He talked about directing The Howling, wanting to cut down the iconic werewolf transformation scene, and originally promoting this film as a slasher. He got into directing his iconic film Gremlins, in which Steven Spielberg sent him the script in the mail. He told the stories of when he knew that Howie Mandel was the perfect voice for Gizmo and why he wanted Kate's monologue scene to be in the film. Joe then got into why he didn't want to make Gremlins 2: The New Batch, the technology being easier to use the Gremlin puppets in this film, and the references to Lon Chaney Sr.'s face reveal in the 1925 The Phantom of the Opera and Rambo. He talked about the upcoming animated Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai that will be airing on HBO Max soon and the upcoming Roger Corman biopic that he is currently working on. We went over his contributions to the Horror genre, Horror films that impressed him recently, and he gave great advice on what makes a great Horror sequel.

Judith O’Dea talks playing Barbara in Night of the Living Dead ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Thank you to Judith O’Dea who played Barbara in George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead for coming on my show for an interview! Judith talked about getting a call to audition for the role of Barbara less than a year after moving out to California from Pittsburgh, how her fear of Vincent Price in House of Wax 1953 prepared her for her performance in Night of the Living Dead, and the barriers that the film broke with casting the first black actor as the lead in a horror film, Duane Jones. She discussed how the time period that the film was shot in relates to the political tensions that are escalating today, learning a lot from George A. Romero on set, and getting worked up for her ad-lib scene where her character recalls what happened at the cemetery. She also got into the story of the prop of the corpse at the top of the stairs in the film, going to the premiere, and stories from being on set with the other cast members. Judith also spoke about her short story that she wants to see made into a film called The Old Woman and the Alien and Night of the Living Dead’s upcoming 55th anniversary next year.

Allen Danziger talks The Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Tobe Hooper ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Thank you to the Bronx and Texas' own Allen Danziger for coming on my show for an interview! Allen talked about portraying Jerry in Tobe Hooper's 1974 classic horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, attending City College in New York, receiving his masters in psychology and second masters in social work at the University of Texas. He discussed what made Tobe Hooper a genius when it came to filmmaking, working with him on Eggshells, and stories from his shoots on the set of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He got into becoming close with Gunnar Hansen, who portrayed the original leatherface, after the film released, having a newfound appreciation for the horror genre, and going to conventions in 2003. He also talked about if his character/voice will be in Gun Media's upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre Video Game and his most recent film work for Storage Locker and Cannibal Comedian. Stay tuned!

C.J. Graham talks playing Jason Voorhees, Jason Lives, & more ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Thank you to actor and stuntman C.J. Graham for coming on my show for an interview! C.J. Graham talked about his early life of growing up in Seattle, Washington, his time in the army, and getting the role as the iconic Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. He discussed how he never did a stunt or an acting gig before he played Jason, being the general manager and chief operating officer of a casino and resort in Los Angeles. He got into doing shows and photoshoots with Rock and Roll legend Alice Cooper, in which Alice Cooper did the songs for the Jason Lives soundtrack. C.J. spoke about his friendship with Kane Hodder, originally supposed to be reprising his role as Jason in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, and thoughts on Tom McLoughlin's script pitch for the 13th Friday the 13th film. He also talked about Sylvester Stallone and Prince coming into his resorts as well as becoming close friends with Lou Ferrigno.

Betsy Baker talks playing Linda in The Evil Dead and Sam Raimi ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Thank you to Betsy Baker for coming on my show for an interview! Betsy talked about her early life of growing up in Saint Joseph's Michigan, going to Michigan State University originally on a music scholarship, and switching over into theater. She discussed getting the role as Linda in Sam Raimi's classic The Evil Dead, the grueling shoot of the film, and when she realized that the film had become a pop culture phenomenon. She got into stories of being on set, watching Sam Raimi invent the handheld shot shaky cam movement, and the rumors of the cabin being haunted. Betsy revealed that she was supposed to reprise her role as Linda in Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn and why she couldn't. She also spoke about reuniting with Sam Raimi on Oz: The Great and Powerful, voicing Linda in Evil Dead: The Game, and her upcoming work in the British Disney Show The Wedding Season. Stay tuned!

Chris Sarandon on Fright Night, Child‘s Play & Jack Skellington ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Big thank you to the legendary Chris Sarandon for coming on my show for an interview! Chris talked about starting out in theater at the Catholic University of America, being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Leon Shermer in Dog Day Afternoon, and his introduction to Horror as a viewer. He explained why Horror was looked down upon by actors at a time and how that viewpoint changed in the 80s. He got into his legendary role as the vampire Jerry Dandrige in the original Tom Holland's 1985 Fright Night, his favorite scenes from the film, and that if Tom Holland was doing the sequel he would have most likely reprised his role as Jerry Dandrige. He discussed his role as Detective Mike Norris in Tom Holland's 1988 Child's Play and his iconic voiceover of Jack Skellington in Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. He revealed the moment when he thought that The Nightmare Before Christmas and his role as Jack Skellington would become a mega hit amongst audiences. He announced that his memoir Heroes, Vampires, and Villains should be releasing next year sometime in 2022 as well as his own podcast. We finished the interview talking sports. Big thank you to Horror icon Bill Moseley for coming on my show for an interview! Bill Moseley discussed the first Horror movie that frightened him as a kid, playing in the 1988 remake of The Blob, and how he got the iconic role as Chop Top in Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2. He talked about the shot of the dinner scene at the end of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2. He got into meeting Rob Zombie, getting his iconic role as Otis Driftwood in House of 1000 Corpses, and meeting Sid Haig for the first time on the set in the Captain Spaulding makeup. He also got into playing Drayton Sawyer in Texas Chainsaw 3-D and how Trey Songz being in the movie helped make the film trend on social media. Thom Mathews talks The Return of the Living Dead & Jason Lives ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Thank you to Thom Mathews for coming on my show for an interview! Thom discussed how he got into acting, the long process it took for him to get the lead role as Freddy in The Return of the Living Dead, and his experience of working with the late great James Karen. He got into his audition and preparation for playing Tommy Jarvis in the fan favorite cult classic film Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and the talks that he has had with writer and director Tom McLoughlin for a script if there was to be a 13th film. He talked about his appreciation growing for filmmaking and the horror genre while being an actor as well as ideas he has for horror films. Thom also got into his upcoming work, his portrayal of Tommy Jarvis being apart of Friday the 13th: The Game, and why the 80s were the best time for horror films.

Tom Holland talks Psycho II, Fright Night, & Child‘s Play on ”Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max”

Huge thank you to the legendary Master of Horror writer and director Tom Holland for coming on my show for an interview! Tom discussed his experience at Northwestern University & UCLA, his time as an actor, and his passion for the Horror genre at a young age. He talked about getting to write the follow up to Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece Psycho, which is Psycho II and his experience of working with the legendary Anthony Perkins who played Norman Bates. He got into the dinner he attended, in which numerous directors, including Quentin Tarantino voted Tom Holland's Psycho II the greatest Horror movie sequel of all time. He talked about his directorial debut of his classic 1985 Fright Night and why he believed that Chris Sarandon would be the perfect fit to play Jerry Dandrige. He also discussed creating the original 1988 Child's Play, how he got the idea for Chucky, and why Brad Dourif was the perfect voice for Chucky. He also mentioned the novels that he is currently working on as well as a sequel to Fright Night that he is hoping to release by next Halloween in 2022. Stay tuned!

Big thank you to Ken Sagoes for calling into my show for an interview! Ken Sagoes discussed playing his famous role as Kincaid in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, seeing Robert Englund for the first time in the Freddy Krueger makeup, and what he learned most from working with Robert. He talked about Laurence Fishburne teaching him how to be a physical actor on the set of Dream Warriors, if there could be a remake of Dream Warriors, and his time as a staff writer for Paramount Pictures. He got into his time starting out as a security guard at Universal Pictures, studying under Marlon Brando and Edmund J. Cambridge, and his conversations with legends such as Alfred Hitchcock and Vincent Price. He won numerous awards for his short film Mc Henry Trial - Don't Judge a Kid By Their Hoodie that released in 2020. He is currently working on an important short film called The Secret Weapon that addresses the deplorable actions of Bull Connor and is raising money for it.
